This National Trust managed modern garden near Truro in south Cornwall, was created within 'shelter belts' planted about 200 years ago. It is constantly evolving still though, with new planting and fresh ideas.

On its own peninsula with ever-changing views of the estuary of the River Fal, Trelissick has one of the most amazing natural settings in the county. There are more than 12 hectares (30 acres) of elevated garden to explore, with twisting paths that lead you through significant collections of hydrangeas, rhododendrons, camellias, ginger lilies and year-round exciting woodland plants.

Trelissick has seen trees grow to maturity, the tide ebbing and flowing, but has also become a dynamic, forward-looking estate. The iconic Water Tower was built for irrigation and fire-control; now the lavatories are flushed with rainwater stored underground in modern reservoirs instead.

Heat is extracted from kitchen appliances and the Sun to provide hot water and heating. The River Fal is now more than just a beautiful setting for Trelissick; many visitors arrive by boat each summer.

The gardens are open all year round with panoramic views over the pleasant River Fal. There are summerhouses, an art & craft gallery, plenty of space for picnics. There are Ferry rides from Trelissicks own jetty. Plus a restaurant and shop on-site, including a number of plants for sale.

As well as the garden, the 121-hectare (300-acre) estate, with its countryside, woodlands and coast, makes for breathtaking walks and it's own renowned art gallery, with a wide range of work from local Cornish artists.

Note: Dogs welcome on the woodland walks only my luvvers!
