In an area of woodland in Trethevy near Tintagel in north Cornwall, along both banks of the Trevillet River, you will find the enchanting St Nectan's Glen.

Here there is a 60ft waterfall which has, over time, formed a hole in the rock - St Nectan's Kieve. Many believe St Nectans Glen to be 'one of the most spiritual sites in the UK'. People come from far & wide to tie or place ribbons, crystals, coins, photographs, small piles of flat stones and other materials near the waterfall. You can just sense the aurora here, many say it's the 'spirits and orb's' that you can feel, and it truly is a magical place. It is known as 'a place of inward reflection and self-realisation'.

It is thought that a 6th century hermit; Saint Nectan, lived above the waterfall centuries ago. Legend says that he even rang a silver bell to warn ships of the dangers of offshore rocks in the area. There is actually a late 19th (or maybe early 20th) century private residence nearby, known as The Hermitage, and this is supposedly constructed on the remains of a Celtic chapel.

The area has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The damp shade provided by the glen supports a rich bryophyte flora, including two rare liverworts. Dippers also nest in the rocks close to Saint Nectan's Kieve.

Note: the site is privately owned but there is free public access to the glen. A charge is made to visit the waterfall though my bewties.
