St Mawes Harbour

Cornish: Lannvowsedh

St Mawes is near the tip of the Roseland Peninsula, lying opposite Falmouth on Carrick Roads. Carrick was created after the last Ice Age caused the sea level to rise dramatically and it is claimed to be the third largest natural harbour in the world. This is effectively why St Mawes Castle was built; to ward off any foreign invasion on this strategically important area.

St Mawes is a popular spot for visitors to the Roseland area. You can follow the coast path in a westerly direction from the town to reach the castle. Parking & local facilities are very good.

The Agatha Christie film Murder Ahoy was filmed here!
