Screech Owl Sanctuary is a haven for sick and injured owls, located not too far from St Austell in mid Cornwall. The sanctuary plays host to hundreds of owls in a number of aviaries organized by species, and in 2002 was in fact the recipient of a BBC Animal Award for its work in animal welfare.

Take the opportunity to join a member of staff on a guided tour around the site. During this enjoyable & indeed informative tour, you will learn some of the unusual stories behind how the birds came to be here, and you may also see some of the rarer species of owl in the world, which are here on breeding programs my birds (pun certainly intended) to enhance the population.

To compliment their usual guided tours and close encounters, they also have three flying displays a day, weather permitting of course. You will also have the opportunity to learn about habitats and conservation – what they do to help preserve various species. There will be ample to time to ask your guide any questions along the way.

As well as the beautiful owls, the sanctuary also has a variety of other animals including Daisy & Malteser, the resident Shetland Ponies, a group of resident meerkats, falconry displays and kids will love the hand-tame area. This is a unique and amazing opportunity to meet and touch a number of our hand-tame owls and learn about their characteristics. These owls have been hand reared for educational purposes and range from some of the smallest species in the world to among the largest. There is always a member of staff on hand to answer any questions and tell you lots of fascinating facts too!
