The National Lobster Hatchery can be found on the docks of the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Padstow in north Cornwall. They aim to help maintain a healthy lobster population in Cornwall through conservation, education and research, supported by their fun visitor centre.

The NLH is committed to furthering the development of stock enhancement programmes and has developed the partnerships, skills, expertise and facilities to enable this work to advance; the NLH is also committed to examining some of the threats and sustainability issues facing the shellfish industry in the region.

The main attraction has to be seeing the young lobsters growing up ready to be released, but they also have a resident giant lobster and edible Spider Crabs.  They display a wealth of information about lobsters, the fishery and marine conservation, as well as activities for all ages. They also have a gift shop area with sea-life related goods and a range of books about marine life and Cornwall.

They recognise that the key to the long term success is education. The visitor centre attracts over 40,000 people a year and promotes the importance of sustainability and responsible marine management.

They also attract students and volunteers from all around the world who wish to train with the knowledgable staff and learn about the work here. They also play an active role in formal education, working with schools, colleges and Universities in the region.
