Liskeard is an ancient Cornish town in mid Cornwall and it's history has strong links with local mining and agriculture. The museum allows you to explore the heritage of this town from Mesolithic settlers to the rise of the internet!

The Liskeard District Museum tells the story of local mining starting with the rock beneath and ending with emigration to all parts of the world. It is the interpretation point for the Caradon Mining District element of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

Located in Foresters Hall, which was originally the East Cornwall Savings Bank. The lovely Venetian Gothic frontage contains stone from local quarries and it was designed by Liskeard's notable architect Henry Rice.

Collections here include; Prehistoric flint tools, Pot fragments and coins (mediaeval to C18th), Military History (helmets, badges, documents and photographs), Economic History 18th – 20th century (weights and measures, documents, trade ephemera), Agriculture 19th - 20th century (tools, documents and images),  Municipal History (documents and ephemera),  Social History (household artefacts, costume, documents, photographs, ephemera from clubs and societies) and  Mining and quarrying tools, documents and photographs to name a few!

There is level access from the street into the reception area and also a lift that goes to all floors in the building. They are also aiming to improve the displays for blind and visually impaired visitors.

They even have a selection of children’s Victorian outfits for loan or use at the museum.
