Overlooking the town is the impressive ruins of Launceston Castle. As well as being an excellent lookout position, it is almost immune to flooding!


The poet Charles Causley (one time contender for Poet Laureate) was a native and long-standing resident of Launceston - he was born here and also died in the town, and Launceston is also one of the most important towns in Daphne du Maurier's novel Jamaica Inn.
