Fowey Royal Regatta is held every August & is one of Britain’s premier sailing events. However, not all the action takes place on the water; there’s plenty to keep landlubbers entertained, from children’s entertainment to the Red Arrows. Most of these events are free, & those that it is necessary to charge for are not inhibitive.

The Fowey Regatta is a must visit for anyone in Cornwall during the third week of August – indeed visitors come from around the world to enjoy all there is to see and do. The Regatta has a long & proud history, having attracted visitors including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert & Queen Elizabeth II.

The Events during Regatta week are organised, marshalled and funded by the Fowey Royal Regatta Committee. This is an entirely voluntary organisation whose members give freely of their time and effort. The week costs in the region of £30,000 and this money is collected by sponsorship, selling souvenirs but mainly by street collections – that’s an awful lot of pennies in tins!

The programme consists of activities such as gig racing, wildlife show, raft races, carnival procession through the town, swimming races, storytelling, music, the yachts arrival from Falmouth, fireworks,  the Red Arrows and much much more..!

Little ones love the Giant Pasty ceremony, in which the iconic pasty arrives by boat from Polruan – as well as magicians, the crab catching contest and a visit from Newquay Zoo.
